Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is the minimum inner diameter for O-ring Unlimited™?

The minimum inner diameter for O-ring Unlimited™ is 200 mm. This is the smallest size at which our segment molding production method can be applied correctly. For O-rings below 200 mm inner diameter, standard molded O-rings are available in a wide range of sizes and materials. If you are unsure whether your required size qualifies for O-ring Unlimited™, our engineering team is happy to advise.

Is there a maximum size for O-ring Unlimited™?

There is no maximum size for O-ring Unlimited™. Our segment molding production method is not limited by mold dimensions, meaning we can produce custom large O-rings to virtually any inner diameter you require. Whether you need an O-ring of 500 mm, 2000 mm or beyond, O-ring Unlimited™ can deliver. Simply enter your required inner diameter in the configurator to get started.

Are O-ring Unlimited™ rings as strong as traditionally molded O-rings?

Yes. O-ring Unlimited™ uses a segment molding production method that produces a 100% fully molded O-ring with no splice point. This means the ring has uniform material properties and dimensional consistency across its entire circumference, identical to a traditionally molded O-ring. In fact, O-ring Unlimited™ outperforms vulcanized cord O-rings in this regard, as vulcanized cord O-rings contain a splice point which is an inherent weak spot that can risk seal failure under pressure or temperature fluctuations.

What cord thicknesses are available?

O-ring Unlimited™ is available in 49 preset cord thicknesses, ranging from 2.62 mm up to 40.00 mm. This covers the vast majority of industrial large O-ring applications, from precision sealing requirements with smaller cross-sections to heavy-duty applications requiring larger cord diameters. All available cord thicknesses can be selected directly in the configurator. If you cannot find your required cord thickness, please contact our engineering team to discuss your options.

Do you offer material certifications or test reports?

Yes, material certifications and test reports are available for O-ring Unlimited™ compounds.

For food, pharmaceutical and contact applications we offer FDA, EC1935/2004 and USP Class VI certifications.

For oil and gas applications we offer NORSOK M710, NACE TM0187 and API 6A certifications.

Certification requirements can be specified during the ordering process via the Advanced Search function in the configurator.

Material datasheets for all available compounds can be downloaded directly from the full compounds overview by clicking the compound number. If you have specific certification requirements not listed above, please contact our team directly to confirm availability for your required material and compound.

What is the lead time for a custom large O-ring?

O-ring Unlimited™ offers five production tiers to match your delivery requirements. Priority+ ships in 4 days, Priority ships in 7 days, Standard Production ships in 10 days, Extended Production ships in 40 days and Extended+ Production ships in 60 days. The three fastest tiers are subject to raw material availability for your selected compound and cord thickness. Available production options are shown automatically in the configurator when you configure your order.

What is the difference between O-ring Unlimited™ and a vulcanized cord O-ring?

Both are used to produce large diameter O-rings, but the production method and resulting quality differ significantly.

Vulcanized cord O-rings are made by cutting rubber round cord to length and bonding the two ends together, creating a splice point that is an inherent weak spot in the seal. The wider tolerances on rubber round cord also mean dimensional consistency cannot always be guaranteed.

O-ring Unlimited™ uses segment molding to produce a 100% fully molded O-ring with no splice point, tighter dimensional tolerances and consistent sealing performance across the full circumference.

Vulcanized cord O-rings remain a cost effective solution for less critical applications, but for applications where sealing reliability is paramount, O-ring Unlimited™ is the superior choice.
