Disadvantages of Neoprene

CR - Neoprene O-rings brings many advantages, unfortunately, however, it also comes with disadvantages. One of these disadvantages is that neoprene is not as resistant to oil and fuel as some other types of rubber such as NBR or FKM. Therefore, Neoprene O-rings can be affected by long-term exposure to oil and fuel making them less suitable for certain applications. If you need a ring where it is constantly immersed in oil, NBR or FKM are recommended. These offer better long-term performance. CR - Neoprene O-rings have a limited temperature range of around 100°C. This can limit usability when used for high temperatures such as in engines or industrial machinery where higher thermal resistance is important id. Neoprene can become less flexible at very low temperatures, which can impair its sealing ability. This reduction in flexibility can compromise the effectiveness of the O-ring. 

CR - Neoprene O-rings are also sensitive to ozone and UV radiation which can shorten the life of the ring in outdoor applications. Prolonged exposure to these can cause cracking, hardening or surface deterioration which can lead to premature seal failure. Therefore, it is recommended to use UV-resistant rings when you need an O-ring that will be exposed to direct sunlight a lot to ensure longer life. Although CR - Neoprene O-rings are known for its versatility, unfortunatly it is not compatible with certain chemicals such as strong acids, esters and ketones that can corrode the material over time.
