What is HNBR 90 Shore?

The HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A stands for ‘Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene Rubber.’ Unlike the NBR, the HNBR is a hydrogenated version and is designed to provide good resistance even in extreme conditions. Because the HNBR is saturated with polymer chains, it has increased thermal stability and abrasion resistance. In addition, the HNBR is also resilient to oils, fuels and chemicals. The hardness of 90 shore A makes these O-rings very durable and suitable when it is a requirement that the O-ring must withstand high pressure and extreme temperatures.

The O-Ring HNBR 90 Shore are often used in oil and gas extraction, hydraulic systems and industrial machinery. They continue to perform well even under the harshest conditions such as ageing and long-term exposure to ozone and UV radiation. This is because the HNBR O-ring has high tensile strength and very low gas permeability. All this together makes HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A a reliable seal when there are high standards required.

What are HNBR used for?

If you are wondering ' what are hnbr o rings used for ', I’ll explain it for you. They are most commonly used in various industries where it is important for them to withstand extreme temperatures, high pressure and chemical exposure.  Think of industries like oil and gas extraction and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

Being resistant to rapid gas decompression, they are also the perfect choice when used with hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2) and natural gas. In addition, they are popular in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Here, they are a very reliable seal as they have high wear resistance and low gas permeability. As cherry on top, HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A are one of the best resistant to acids, bases and high temperatures.

Hydraulic and pneumatic systems

HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A are perfect for hydraulic and pneumatic systems as they have low gas permeability and high wear resistance. As a result, they are often used in hydraulic fluids (such as HFA, HFB and HFC), lubricants and gas seals. Their high resistance to oils, greases and extreme temperatures ensure excellent performance of these O-rings for a long time. The fact that HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A are so robust makes it perfect when used in high-pressure systems, compressors and industrial machinery.

Oil and gas industry

If you work in the oil and gas industry the HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A is the right choice because they are resistant when exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2) and crude oil. When used in high-demand situations, the O-ring continues to perform for a long time thanks to its chemical resistance and low gas permeability. HNBR complies with strict standards including ISO 23936, NORSOK M-710 and NACE TM0192-2003, making it reliable in high-speed gas decompression. For these reasons, this makes HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A a solid choice when installed in drilling rigs, pipelines and oil production facilities where a long-lasting and durable seal is important.

Properties of the HNBR 90 Shore O-Ring

The HNBR O-Rings - 90 Shore A excels due to its mechanical properties and broad chemical resistance. In addition, it also excels in temperature resistance which ranges from -40°C to 150°C, making it suitable for the most bizarre working environments. In addition, its high abrasion and tensile strength (>22 MPa) makes it reliable even under high pressure and prolonged exposure to oils. Because the HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A have low gas permeability, this makes them the right choice when used in the oil and gas industry since sealing gases such as H₂S and CO₂ is essential. As icing on the cake the O-ring HNBR 90 shore is also resistant to ozone, UV radiation and ageing. This results in a long service life when used in outdoor environments or in industry. This makes the HNBR O-ring one of the more durable rings.

Temperature and chemical resistance

The HNBR O-Ring - 90 Shore A maintains its quality in extreme temperatures from -40°C to 150°C without any loss in flexibility or seal quality. Whereas the NBR O-ring would be less effective in cold and hot environments, the HNBR certainly is not. On top of this, HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A also have excellent chemical resistance to oils, greases, coolants and other aggressive substances. Since they have high chemical strength, you are definitely not in the wrong place with this O-ring when used in industry.

Mechanical strength and wear resistance

If there are two things the HNBR O-Rings - 90 Shore A are known for it is their exceptional mechanical strength and abrasion resistance, this makes them resistant to high loads and long-term use. They retain their shape even when under high pressure due to the tensile strength of >22 MPa and an ‘elongation to rupture’ of >180%. Besides that HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A is also resistant to abrasion and extrusion which ensures a long service life even under high pressure and friction. You can rely on the HNBR whenever you need it in a situation with many demands around industrial and technical use.

Resilient to ozone and ageing

The HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A is also resistant to ozone, UV radiation and ageing which means they do not become brittle or lose quality in sealing when exposed to outdoor air for long periods of time. Compared to NBR, HNBR shows much less degradation when under the influence of oxidation or severe weather conditions. Its strong resistance to weather and chemical degradation results in a long service life. If you need a durable O-ring that must withstand long-term exposure to ozone, sunlight and/or UV radiation, the HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A is the best choice for you.

Certifications and approvals

The HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A meet strict industry requirements and standards. So you can be sure that they are reliable O-rings that you can use in situations where there are high demands. The HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A has the following certifications. One of which is ISO 23936-2 and this means that it is suitable for use in the oil and gas industry due to its high resistance to aggressive chemicals and high pressure. You can also use the O-ring in conditions that require rapid gas decompression. This is because the ring is NORSOK M-710 & NACE TM0192-2003 certified. Finally, you also have the DIN ISO 815 & DIN ISO 48. Here it is tested for compression set and hardness which confirms the strength and durability of this material.

When is HNBR 90 Shore not suitable?

Despite being resistant to many chemicals, the HNBR O-Rings - 90 Shore A is not 100% perfect. There are times when even the HNBR O-Rings - 90 Shore A cannot withstand. For instance, the material can be degraded and reduce when you use it at times that involve halocarbons (such as trichloroethylene).

HNBR is not sufficiently resistant to strong acids and ketones such as acetone and MEK that can degrade the structure of the rubber. In the automotive industry it is recommended not to use it when in contact with brake and phosphate ester hydraulic fluids (such as Skydrol and Fyrguel). These substances can damage the material resulting in loss of its quality and effectiveness. If you need an elastomer that comes into contact with any of these chemicals, it is better to consider an alternative.

Why choose the HNBR O-Ring 90 Shore?

HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A are a great choice when used in the most severe conditions. Their high resistance means they will still perform at their best at temperatures from -40°C to 150°C, as well as when used in oils, greases, fuels and chemicals.

High wear resistance and mechanical strength makes the HNBR O-rings - 90 Shore A a durable seal. In oil & gas extraction and industrial machinery, HNBR O-rings will not flinch, even under high pressure and intensive use. They also meet the strict standards of ISO 23936 and NORSOK M-710 confirming their suitability in industry. If you need an O-ring that should have long life and high resistance, then the HNBR O-ring 90 shore is the right choice for you.
