DIMENSIONAL INSPECTION

Introduction

An Optical Measuring Machine is utilized for measuring seals, capable of measuring up to an Outer Diameter of 430 mm.

Measurement Principles

In accordance with the O-ring standard DIN 3771, O-rings must undergo contactless measurement regarding the O-ring cross-section, with the number of measuring points left unspecified. Meaningful data regarding the radial cord thickness can only be acquired by averaging numerous single values over the entire perimeter. DIN 2771 permits measurements with conical test mandrels and mandrels with varying levels.

Technology Description

O-Ring-Test-Laboratory Techniparts commissioned a specialized measurement and sorting machine in September 1996. This machine combines a line scan camera controlled by a linear drive with a rotatable glass measuring table, enabling contactless and highly accurate measurement of O-rings and other seals with an inner diameter ranging from 0 to 400 mm. Additionally, it can measure cord thickness or wall thickness.

Machine Capabilities

This machine evaluates several thousand measuring points around the perimeter and employs a patent-pending evaluation process to ensure excellent repeatability and measurement accuracy. It provides not only inner and outer diameter measurements but also the average cord thickness and selective minimum and maximum values. It can conduct tests at almost one-second intervals for seals with outer diameters up to 25 mm, facilitating cost-efficient sorting of good and bad parts using a blowing device. Larger seals can also be measured within seconds. Furthermore, in addition to sorting based on precise tolerances, the machine generates measurement reports and enables statistical evaluations.
